Building on the strong policy foundation of 2022, SAGHS 2023 advanced South Africa's position from strategic intent to implementation-focused delivery.
The 2023 summit welcomed a broader international audience and delivered more concrete discussions on green hydrogen production, value chain development and Power-to-X applications across priority sectors.
It reinforced green hydrogen as a central pillar of South Africa's future energy mix and industrial growth strategy, while creating stronger collaboration pathways across Africa through AGHA and other strategic partners.

The hydrogen economy has a prominent role to play in our country's just energy transition, providing employment and support to vulnerable workers, communities and small businesses. It has been estimated that the hydrogen economy has the potential to add 3.6 percent to our GDP by 2050 and approximately 370,000 jobs. We must act with purpose to harness the potential of the green hydrogen economy.
